Combining acupuncture with microcurrent therapy offers acupuncturists two very compatible modalities and the best of both worlds. This is an especially effective strategy when treating an acute injury using microcurrent to treat the locally involved tissue, and stimulating distal acupuncture points with needles.
For example, if the patient has an inflamed shoulder treat with microcurrent by surrounding the injured tissue using electrodes (probes or pads). Treating at the site of the inflamed tissue with microcurrent is a preferable treatment to acupuncture. Needles are not commonly placed directly into inflamed areas. The addition of needling specific distal acupuncture points commonly used to reduce swelling makes the treatment ideal for enhancing treatment results.
The benefits of combining microcurrent and acupuncture together are evident for improving cosmetic results, as well. Microcurrent is especially desirable for cosmetic use because it is painless, non-invasive, effective and won’t cause bruising which can occur with needle placement on the face. Additionally, a microcurrent treatment for cosmetic purposes is an effective alternative for patients who are needle phobic.
Treat with probes on the face and stimulate all the yang meridians for a constitutional approach to treatment. Give the patient a boost in overall health by stimulating distal acupuncture points such as ST-36 and K-3. Chinese herbs for specific cosmetic issues may offer even more successful and impressive results.
